TOKYO Mimi College

TOKYO Mimi College is a public–private partnership event organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government with the aim of deepening awareness and understanding of hearing disabilities. NEC has served as a co-organizer continuously since the inaugural event in 2015.

At the event, NEC hosts an interactive workshop titled “The NEC Challenge,” where participants can enjoy learning basic sign language through a quiz-style format. By providing opportunities for a wide range of people—including event visitors and NEC Group employees who support workshop operations—to experience sign language firsthand, NEC seeks to promote the use of sign language and foster greater understanding of hearing disabilities, helping to expand a circle of smiles and inclusion.

Comments from NEC Group employees involved in planning and operating the workshop

  • “I felt proud when visitors told us, ‘NEC really has a deep understanding of people with disabilities.’”
  • “Seeing visitors smile and being able to enjoy the experience together was very rewarding. As an NEC Group employee, I felt that I was able to contribute value, even in a small way.”
  • “I was reminded of the importance of responding with the understanding that people have different perspectives and circumstances, and that unexpected situations are normal. Approaching things with flexibility is essential.”
