NEC Cloud System (OSS Building Model)

Pioneering efforts in the OSS community

NEC develops and promotes OpenStack as an active member of the OpenStack community

NEC became an active member of the OpenStack community in 2011, having clearly recognized the potential of OpenStack as an Open-Source Software (OSS) solution for highly reliable and affordable cloud infrastructure. As an OpenStack Foundation Gold Member and prominent member of Japan OpenStack User Group (JOSUG), NEC continues to actively develop, distribute and implement OSS. NEC is also promoting the innovative application and effective utilization of OSS through various other development, training and information sharing activities.

As a core developer of OpenStack, we continue to enhance its quality.

NEC has been Japan's leading contributor to the development of OpenStack for three consecutive years and six consecutive versions. Eight of our core developers work on the development of eight OpenStack components.

NEC has been officially recognized as one of the world's 10 main contributors to the OpenStack Community and the only Japanese vendor among them.

  • Note:As of October 2015

NEC is also contributing to the development and quality enhancement of OpenStack as it applies the software to its own management and support services and finds ways to improve it. All improvements are shared with the open-source community to maintain openness.

NEC is a leading provider of OpenStack-based cloud infrastructure service.

NEC launched its OpenStack-based cloud infrastructure service, NEC Cloud IaaS, in 2014 and has implemented a number of OpenStack solutions in various fields including manufacturing, distribution, finance and higher education. NEC's reliable, high-quality OSS-based cloud infrastructure delivers significant benefits through services that are highly praised by customers.

NEC is a trailblazer in the world of OpenFlow-compatible product development.

Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is bringing innovation to the world of networking. NEC was the world's first company to develop an OpenFlow-compatible product and has implemented SDN solutions for over 250 organizations including corporations, government agencies, medical facilities and educational institutes in Japan, the US and the EU.

When building OSS-based cloud infrastructure, NEC also flexibly provides streamlined Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) solutions utilizing multiple data centers (DC). These include virtual DC comprised of multiple DC that can heighten the efficiency of network operation management for clients.
