Air, Soil, Water Quality

NOx and SOx Emissions

We lowered total sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions to 1.1 ton in FY 2017/3, a reduction of 98% compared to FY 2003/3. We also lowered our nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions to 16 tons, which is a reduction of 96% compared to FY 2003/3.

VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) Emissions

* Emissions of VOC to the atmosphere. Data is based on aggregated results of substances subject to the PRTR Law.
Scope: NEC and NEC Group companies in Japan subject to environmental governance.

The Soil Contamination Countermeasures Law, which bans or restricts the use of hazardous chemical substances, was enacted in February 2003. NEC had stopped the use of such chemical substances before the enforcement, including volatile organic compounds trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene (1998), and 1,1,1-trichloroethane (1993).
We also performed several voluntary soil surveys at all manufacturing sites of NEC Group.

Water Quality

Analysis and Monitoring of Pollution (Measurements Taken by NEC and Domestic Manufacturing Subsidiaries)

NEC conducts environment measurements required by laws and regulations and by local government ordinances based on an annual plan. Efforts are made to monitor environmental conservation activities continually to avoid inconveniencing local and neighboring communities. Drainage, exhaust emissions, noise and vibration emitted by plants are periodically monitored and checked. Voluntary control standards that are stricter than legally required standards are set, and compliance is made with legal requirements by using a trend control technique that detects anomalous values early based on trends in past data.
