Maximizing Long-Term Profit, Optimizing Short-Term Profit── .
I always keep this in mind and encourage all members of the NEC Group to be mindful of it as well. To contribute to society, it is essential to adopt a long-term perspective rather than merely pursuing immediate profits. This is because business is the long-term cycle in which we deliver value in the form of outcomes achieved through problem solving, receive compensation for that value, and reinvest it to create new value.

This is precisely the essence of corporate management, and it is also key to the realization of a sustainable society.

The NEC Group has established the following as its Purpose: “Creating the social values of safety, security, fairness and efficiency to promote a more sustainable world where everyone has the chance to reach their full potential.”

Each element constituting this Purpose relates to sustainability.
Advancing our business to achieve our Purpose also contributes to realizing a sustainable society together with our customers, partners, investors, and communities.

However, definitions and perceptions of a “sustainable society” will likely change gradually over time. The AI Industrial Revolution is altering the very foundations of everything, leading to major evolutions in industrial structures and social systems. At the same time, instability in international cooperation and the malicious use of technology pose risks to our daily lives. Even the long-standing goal of caring for the global environment is seeing a shift in approaches to achieving it. The world is constantly changing in this way, and the pace of that change is undoubtedly accelerating. With this in mind, we must continually ask ourselves what kind of value we can continue to provide to realize “a sustainable society for the future.”

Through my annual participation in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting (the Davos Conference), I have experienced firsthand the changes taking place in the world. At the Davos Conference in January 2026, I spoke at a panel session titled “Japan’s Turn” and conveyed the message that “Japan should share the benefits derived from technology to help safeguard a peaceful world,” which resonated with the audience. Today, there is a growing need to realize a world where everyone can enjoy the fruits of innovation through technology, live in constant safety, and feel secure. Herein lies a clue to “a sustainable society for the future” to which NEC should contribute.

In our newly formulated “Mid-Term Management Plan 2030,” we have reexamined the value we can provide to society and the social challenges we must address. As we implement this plan, we have unveiled its “Vision for Creating Social Value” titled “Empower Humanity—Delivering innovation and peace of mind.”

By implementing AI throughout society, we will empower human creativity and drive innovation. Also, by implementing comprehensive security technologies that contribute to economic security, we will realize a society where people can live with peace of mind and take on new challenges. By putting these initiatives into practice, NEC will achieve sustainable growth for itself while contributing to the creation of a “sustainable society”—a society that is essential for the future.

To realize this vision, the following four elements are needed from a sustainability perspective: “continuously proposing and providing new value to society (Innovation),” “making employees and stakeholders happier (Well-being),” “building a resilient organization (Resilience),” and “doing the right thing (Integrity).”

This position is also in line with the United Nations Global Compact, a global initiative signed by NEC in 2005 that advocates 10 principles in the four areas of human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. It is also consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

NEC will continue to work with all stakeholders to create social value and make steady progress toward realizing our Purpose. This is the most meaningful contribution we can make toward the realization of a sustainable world.
