[Seminar Report] NEC Held an IP DX Business Seminar

The Intellectual Property Management and Rule Making/Standardization Division held an IP DX Business seminar on February 25, 2026 at NEC’s headquarters. Interest in using IP DX to improve efficiency and digitalization of intellectual property operations was high, and the seminar was attended by a large number of participants.

The seminar began with a presentation of the results of a pre-event survey, followed by a detailed introduction to NEC’s overall approach to IP DX and the value it delivers. In particular, the seminar focused on NEC’s distinctive approach to improving and advancing both technology development and intellectual property development. It also explained the business processes NEC is currently promoting for the AI-native era, including AI-driven invention creation, patent specification drafting, prior art searches, and office action responses.

The seminar also featured demonstrations of SaaS-based solutions for AI-driven invention creation and prior art search tools, giving participants a concrete sense of how these tools could be used in practice. In addition, NEC introduced its support for strategy development based on the alignment of business, technology, and intellectual property, as well as the scope of its business consulting services, and presented an overview of future offerings and roadmap going forward. The event concluded with a Q&A session and a lunch consultation session, providing an opportunity to address participants’ specific challenges and concerns.

Participants’ comments and survey results

Satisfaction with the seminar content was extremely high, with approximately 90% of respondents indicating that they were either “satisfied” or “very satisfied.” Participants showed particularly strong interest in content directly relevant to practical operations, such as improving the efficiency and sophistication of intellectual property development (including patent specification drafting and prior art searches), enhancing technology development, and live demonstrations. Many attendees expressed a strong need for greater efficiency and sophistication in their operations through IP DX, and responded especially positively to the practical, on-the-ground perspective and the introduction of concrete examples and use cases.
