Fueling the creation of social value through discussions on finding joy in one's work: A career-focused dialogue session hosted by Pro Bono Club members and other employee volunteers

While NEC is a company whose Purpose is to create social value, it is not necessarily something created solely using cutting-edge technology. Each employee must examine their work style and future aspirations, ask questions, and take action. These efforts add up over time, ultimately forging connections with society and creating new value.
In March 2026, the NEC Pro Bono Club teamed up with a group of predominantly young employee volunteers to hold a career-focused event titled "A day dedicated to designing a career you can find joy in: Envisioning your own professional journey."
This event was organized as a forum for participants of all ages and roles to share and discuss what it means to find joy in one's work and how to build a personal career path. As such, it provided an opportunity to pause and reflect on NEC's long-standing commitment to people-centered value creation.
A new challenge sparked by the aspirations of NEC employees
In 2023, a group of young NEC Group employee volunteers launched an initiative out of a strong desire to internally and externally share NEC's human resource strategy, "NEC, for Those Who Seek Challenge." Determined to make the NEC Group even better and take it to new heights from their youthful perspective, these employees embarked on an initiative to spread the word about "NEC, for Those Who Seek Challenge" through their own relentless efforts to embrace new challenges. As part of this initiative, volunteers consistently create opportunities for NEC employees of all ages and roles to discuss career-related topics, including workshops for job offer recipients and roundtable discussions for young employees.
Amidst all this, there arose a desire to incorporate external perspectives for greater openness in career-focused dialogue sessions. Along the way, those involved faced challenges, including building connections with external experts and coordinating company-wide planning and operations.
Event-planning support provided by the Pro Bono Club
The NEC Pro Bono Club, comprised of NEC Group employee volunteers, shared this desire and offered its support. To date, over 2,000 employees have participated in the NEC Pro Bono Club, utilizing their diverse expertise to address social issues in partnership with local governments, NPOs, and educational institutions. Drawing on its extensive external networks and experience in event management, the NEC Pro Bono Club took charge of planning and managing this event alongside NEC's young employees.
At the event held at NEC's Tamagawa Plant on March 12, 2026, Asako Kimura, a social entrepreneur active in various fields with a strong connection to the NEC Pro Bono Club, was invited to speak. Approximately 80 people participated in person and online combined, attracting a broad range of employees from young professionals to seasoned veterans.
Two hours dedicated to putting into words what it means to find joy in one's work
Recounting her own experiences, Kimura spoke on several themes, including what it means to find joy in one's work, how to build a personal career path, and how to engage with and contribute to society.

What stood out most was Kimura's insights on gratitude and contribution, along with her advice to be mindful of acquiring new knowledge during times of uncertainty. Many participants were struck by her viewpoint that careers should not be regarded as "something confined only to the company you belong to," but rather "considered within the larger context of your life as a whole."
During the second half of the event, participants took part in a dialogue session. Employees of various ages and career backgrounds spent this time candidly discussing the work styles that bring them joy.
The moment when the aspirations of the organizers truly reached participants
In the feedback survey conducted after the event, many participants voiced their satisfaction.

Feedback such as "This event provided me with helpful hints for considering my career" and "I now realize that NEC is a company that encourages its employees to embrace new challenges" shows that the organizers' aspirations resonated with participants.
Other comments from participants included: "This event allowed me to shift my perspective from thinking about my career strictly as working for a company to viewing it as part of my life journey," and "Being exposed to diverse viewpoints helped me consider my next step."
Building NEC's future through people-centered value creation
Both the volunteer initiative led by young employees and the activities of the NEC Pro Bono Club grew from the concerns and aspirations of each employee.
This initiative demonstrates the potential for sharing such aspirations through dialogue, allowing them to go beyond personal awareness and take root as part of NEC's culture and values. Participants at events like this reflect not only on how they want to work but also on how they want to engage with society. They then connect with individuals both inside and outside the company to take meaningful action. Over time, this empowers employees to incorporate NEC's Purpose, which is to create social value, into their daily work and decision-making processes.
Going forward, NEC will remain committed to people-centered value creation, continuing to envision the future of society while supporting its employees as they seek new challenges.
