Case 3: E-BOM, Master M-BOM and M-BOM by manufacturing site

Overview of the case: This is a hybrid type M-BOM. Create standard M-BOM (M-BOM for mother factory) and M-BOM for each manufacturing site with PLM system and manage M-BOM with ERP system at each manufacturing site
Operation: Manufacturing engineering person in charge creates M-BOM and manage standard parts configuration and process information by Obbligato. In addition, creates BOM for each manufacturing site as well. Then, transfers these M-BOMs to ERP system of each manufacturing site after approval.
Trend of applied company: Mostly adopted in automotive parts. Mainly adopted by global companies that have many overseas manufacturing sites. Often in the case when one product is manufactured at multiple factories. Technical information related to manufacturing is controlled and managed by manufacturing engineering department in Japan.
Expected merits: Streamline engineering changes and control application period of technical change. Reduce information transmission time. Streamline instructions to manufacturing sites and strengthening governance. Strengthening traceability and management of quality information. Central management of standard information for supporting a flexible manufacturing map and BCP.

Case 4: E-BOM and Multi-site M-BOM

Overview of the case: Create and manage multi-site M-BOM with PLM system in order to manufacture one product at multiple factories
Operation: Manufacturing person in charge at multiple manufacturing sites maintain one M-BOM by Obbligato. Then, transfers it to ERP system of each manufacturing sites after approval.
Trend of applied company: Mainly adopted in large size products such as plant system. Often in the case when one product is manufactured at multiple factories (In case of, using large size facilities). Each factory has own manufacturing engineering and control department such as manufacturing subsidiaries. Often mainly adopted by a large-scale individual order type product and processing industry.
Expected merits: Streamline engineering changes and control application period of technical change. Reduce information transmission time. Streamline instructions to manufacturing sites and strengthening governance. Strengthening traceability and management of quality information. Strengthening cost simulation function.

This time, we introduced several management approaches for multiple BOM with our case studies. Each user has considered and chosen the own style depending on their product and manufacturing environment. We shall be happy to be of service to your BOM management as a reference.
