The Japan Open becomes the fourth tournament on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis World Tour to gain Super Series status.

NEC celebrates 10 years of partnership with the ITF.
1994
The world's top eight men and women compete in the inaugural NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
1992
NEC concludes a partnership agreement with the International Wheelchair Tennis Federation (IWTF; fully incorporated into the ITF in 1998) and begins its sponsorship of the ITF Wheelchair Tennis Tour.
1991
NEC begins sponsoring the first NEC All Japan Wheelchair Tennis Masters organized by the Japan Wheelchair Tennis Association and the Yoshida Memorial Tennis Training Center as a title sponsor. This sponsorship continues on to the present day. (NEC was a title sponsor until the 26th NEC All Japan Wheelchair Tennis Masters)
