Examples of Eco Symbol Star Products (Hardware)

In FY 2012, sixteen product series in ten product groups were approved as products earning the Eco Symbol Star.
These products include power-saving server and storage products that received the Green IT Promotion Council Chairman's Award of Green IT Awards 2011, and support power saving in offices, stores and data centers with an operational upper-limit temperature of 40°C.

Certified ProductsCriteriaResults and Strengths
(Note: At the time the Eco Symbol Star mark is obtained)
Express server
Express5800/R110d-1E
Express5800/E110d-1
Express5800/GT110d
Express5800/GT110d-S
Non-NEC award: Green IT Promotion Council Chairman's Award, Green IT Awards 2011 The parts layout was changed, and large heat sinks were attached to CPUs to efficiently cool CPUs that emit a high heating value. Through these means, the guaranteed operating temperature was raised by +5°C (to 40°C) compared with a former server model of NEC, contributing to reductions in the power costs of its customers.
Storage iStorage
iStorage M10e/M100 Global warming: Achievement of a CO₂ emissions reduction rate of 50% or higher
Non-NEC award: Green IT Promotion Council Chairman's Award, Green IT Awards 2011
Power efficiency was improved through high-efficiency power supply of 80 PLUS GOLD, and power consumption was reduced through optimum control of rotation fan in accordance with the ambient temperature. Compared with a former product of NEC, CO₂ emissions during product operation were reduced by about 65%.
As in the Express server, stable operation was accomplished in an ambient temperature of 40°C, contributing to reductions in the power costs of its customers.
MultiSync Series public display
MultiSync LCD-X551S Global warming: Achievement of a CO₂ emissions reduction rate of 50% or higher A high-luminance 55 inch public display, first in the world with the concept of low profile, light weight, narrow frame, and low power consumption.
An optimum luminance is set automatically by adjusting to ambient brightness and darkness through ambient light control (open air sensor), reducing wasteful power consumption. In addition, the cargo-carrying efficiency of containers has been increased through thin and space-saving design, contributing to a reduction in CO₂ emissions during transportation.
MultiSync LCD-X461S Technological superiority: Overwhelmingly contributes to a reduction in the environmental impact with NEC's technology A high-luminance narrow-frame LCD panel was newly developed, first in the world as a public display. An optimum luminance is set automatically by adjusting to ambient brightness and darkness through ambient light control (open air sensor), reducing wasteful power consumption.
Liquid crystal projectors
NP-L50WJD Global warming:
Achievement of a CO₂ emissions reduction rate of 50% or higher
A technology first in industry
A liquid crystal projector with an LED light source (mercury free) with a luminance of 500 lumens or higher, first in the industry for the mobile class. Annual power consumption is reduced by 64% compared with a former product. By employing a power-limit mode (eco mode), the projector operates at 75% under standard conditions.
Super compact microwave communication system
iPASOLINK
iPASOLINK 200 Global warming: Achievement of a CO₂ emissions reduction rate of 50% or higher Integrating three units (MUX system, IP switch, and modem (IDU)), which were independent units in the former products (PASOLINK), power consumption has been reduced by more than 50%.
Additionally, the microwave transmitter/receiver (ODU), which is a unit installed outdoors, is not painted, contributing to zero emission of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) generated in the painting process.
Broadcasting equipment
Radio master equipment
NA-230
Global warming: Achievement of a CO₂ emissions reduction rate of 50% or higher Conventional radio master equipment consists of an automatic program control system, voice signal converter, and switcher system that switches and processes voice. By integrating these units and through other means, power consumption is reduced by 63% compared with a former product of NEC. Through high integration of the racks in the equipment, the volume has been decreased by 83%.
POS terminal
S1632-02
S1632-03
Global warming: Achievement of a CO₂ emissions reduction rate of 50% or higher Developed as a new-genre product, mobile POS reduces CO₂ emissions by about 99% compared with a former POS terminal model of NEC, even though the terminal has diverse account settlement and other functions provided with conventional POS terminals such a magnetic card, contact-type IC card, and non-contact IC card. A fire-retardant bioplastic is used in some of the parts inside the USB connector holder.
Multi-function machine
Black-and-white multi-function machine for A3 paper size
Multina XP2300/XF2300/XF2000 Global warming: Achievement of a CO₂ emissions reduction rate of 50% or higher Equipped with 1000BASE-T (gigabit Ethernet), the machine first meets the energy-saving Ethernet standard IEEE 802.3az EEE (Energy-Efficient Ethernet), which reduces power consumption in standby mode during which network communication is not carried out, for the first time for multi-function machines. Using a monitoring device that functions in energy-saving mode, to respond to an incoming message from FAX and to a request for printing sent by a PC, all power consumption is eliminated except for functions needed when the machine is recovered. Through these measures, a reduction of about 51% was achieved in the TEC value* compared with former products in terms of the copying speed of products registered for the Eco Symbol Star.
* Power consumption in one conceptual week (where normal use is assumed: Five days of operation and sleep/off + Two days of sleep/off) is expressed as "kWh".
