Green House Gas Emissions
Change in CO₂ Emissions
CO₂ emissions (absolute value) resulting from consumption of energy in FY 2012 totaled 370,000 tons, reduced by 24% compared with the previous fiscal year achieved through the joint venturing of its liquid crystal display business with a Chinese enterprise beginning July 2011 and through the implementation of energy- and power-saving measures.
The amount of CO₂ emitted per unit of actual sales decreased by 25% compared with the previous fiscal year, and decreased by 85% of FY 1991 levels, to 4.63 tons/100 million yen. We therefore achieved the target of a 35% decrease from FY 1991 levels set by the four major electrical and electronics business organizations.
Note: The actual FY 2011 value was used as the conversion factor for the amount of CO₂ emitted due to energy usage in FY 2012.

Energy-derived CO₂ emissions per unit of actual sales
Emissions of greenhouse gases other than CO₂ (*) in FY 2010 decreased to 190,000 tons (CO₂ conversion value), a 48% reduction compared with the previous year. This was due to our aggressive actions in installing additional greenhouse gas elimination devices and using alternative gases.
This reduction greatly exceeded the FY 2011 target of decreasing our non-CO₂ greenhouse gas emissions to 500,000 tons (a 50% cut compared with FY 2006 levels), due in part to an unanticipated drop in production levels (our push to introduce more greenhouse gas elimination devices was based on a forecasted increase in production).
NEC continues to set and manage separate targets for reducing energy-derived CO₂ emissions and reducing energy-derived emissions of other greenhouse gases in line with the Kyoto Protocol Target Achievement Plan approved by the cabinet in April 2005.
