Mid-Term Environmental Plan

FY 2014 Management Items

The following are items for which an action plan does not need to be made but the ongoing improvement and enhancement of the activity level is required, or items for which the target level has already been achieved.

(*: Newly added item or modified target item, Underlined: Added or modified points)

Indicator Items
Prevention of Global Warming [1] Continuous reduction of energy-derived CO₂ emissions quantity (absolute value)
[2] Continuous reduction of CO₂ emissions quantity (absolute value) by distribution
[3] Environmental assessment execution rate of software products: Maintaining 100%
Reducing Environmentally Hazardous Materials [4] Green procurement: Maintaining 100%
[5] Sustaining 95% non usage of bromine fire retardant in the plastics used for device casings
  • Progress managed by the rate of bromine fire retardants unused (Note 1)
[6] Product AIS established 100%
  • Establishment of mandatory rules for shipments to EU, and maintenance and operation, at each SBU
[7] All products are compliant with RoHS (excluding not applicable products)
Resource Recycling [8] Greater use of Eco-plastics (Note 2) for external device container plastic
  • Progress control based on eco-plastic usage rate (Note 3)
[9] Amount of used products collected (Note 4)
[10] A 90% resource reutilization rate of recovered used products is continuing.
[11] Endeavor to manage and reduce waste emissions (general + industrial waste).
Effective Utilization of Resources [12] Maintain zero emissions 100% (Note 5)
[13] Endeavor to maintain or reduce purchases of paper (copy paper, EDP forms) to FY 2006 levels.
[14] Endeavor to maintain or reduce water consumption (city water, industrial water, and ground water) to FY 2003 levels.
(Applies to: Use of water 1 million m³/year or more)
[15] Endeavor to maintain or reduce consumption of paper and plastic packaging materials to FY 2006 levels.
(Basis: Law for Promotion of Sorted Collection and Recycling of Containers and Packaging)
[16] Endeavor to manage and reduce quantity of chemical substances purchased (substances regulated by law).
Environmental Management [17] Promotion of acquisition of ISO 14001 certification (Applies to: Consolidated companies that have not yet acquired ISO 14001 certification) Each company is to acquire ISO certification as necessary according to the necessity in their businesses.
(Guide: Acquisition of certification should be targeted within three years after becoming a consolidated subsidiary. Manufacturing companies should preferably acquire certification.)
Risk Minimum [18] Achieve 100% of the legal compliance rate (reporting, reports, and emissions).
[19] Achieve 100% of the chemical material balance management rate. (Applies to: Materials controlled by laws and regulations)
[20] Achieve 100% of the regulation rate for purchases of chemical materials that have no material safety data sheet (MSDS).
[21] Endeavor to manage and reduce emissions of volatile organic chemical substances (VOCs).
[22] Achieve 100% of the implementation rate for preliminary assessment and assessment of manufacturing methods of equipment, chemical materials, and new waste.
[23] Endeavor to maintain or reduce NOx and SOx emissions to FY 2003 levels (excluding increases in NOx due to measures implemented to reduce CO₂ emissions).
[24] Endeavor to maintain or reduce BOD and COD to FY 2003 levels.
[25] Achieve 100% of the environmental assessment implementation rate (when plants and buildings are newly built or demolished).
Regional Contributions [26] Promotion of regional contributions and promotion of cooperation with local governments and other bodies
Communications [27] Promotion of environmental public relations

Note 1: Total consumption of plastics containing bromine fire retardants/Total consumption of plastics for housings
Note 2: Eco-plastic
  1) Renewable plastics [Plastics containing at least 10% renewable plastic materials]
  2) Bioplastics [Plastics using at least 75% plant-derived resin in its resin components]
  3) Plastics using non halogen and non phosphorus fire retardants (ex. Eco-polycaTM)
Note 3: Total eco-plastic weight/Total housing plastic weight
Note 4: We will not set a numerical target for the amount of used products collected because this is highly dependent on market and product trends. However, we will continue to monitor the status as a management item because we need to report the amount collected in accordance with the Law for the Promotion of Effective Utilization of Resources and the wide-area accreditation system.
Note 5: Zero emission refers to a final landfill disposal rate (final landfill disposal volume/total volume) of less than 0.5%.
