NEC aims to ascertain the amount of CO₂ emitted over the entire life cycle of its business operations, from materials procurement to production, distribution, and use by the customer. In the procurement phase, CO₂ emissions are estimated by tracing information on parts and materials purchased by NEC all the way back to resource extraction. In the customer use phase, emissions are estimated by conducting product life cycle assessment (LCA).
By continually assessing and determining this data, NEC can take measures to reduce the environmental impact of its products effectively.
In FY 2012, CO₂ emissions were reduced by 70,000 tons as a whole for the NEC Group owing to a reduction of emissions in business activities even though CO₂ emissions in the use phase at customer sites increased due to increase of shipments of products.

(Note 1) CO₂ emissions upon distribution are reported based only on emissions from NEC Logistics, the NEC Group's distribution company.
*Scope: NEC Japan (headquarters, 6 plants, and 3 laboratories), 23 manufacturing subsidiaries, 41 service and software subsidiaries, and 14 independent affiliates. (The data for independent affiliates has been added. Past data has been modified to include this independent affiliate data.)
