Tokyo, September 2, 2026 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) has joined "Project Glasswing," (*1), an initiative led by Anthropic PBC (*2; Anthropic) to ensure the security of the world’s most critical software, and is using Anthropic's frontier AI model "Claude Mythos Preview" (Mythos) for defensive cybersecurity work, including its own vulnerability management processes. By combining Mythos’ advanced software analysis capabilities with NEC’s expertise in system construction and cybersecurity for critical infrastructure—cultivated over many years—NEC will be able to rapidly detect vulnerabilities in internal IT systems as well as automate and streamline security measures within development and operations processes.

Specifically, NEC will put Mythos to use in its own vulnerability management processes and other areas. Furthermore, NEC will apply its insights to the design, governance, and development of expertise in security for the AI-native era.

Background

In April 2026, NEC became the first Japanese company to enter into a global partnership with Anthropic, marking the start of a collaboration aimed at the safe and effective real-world implementation of AI (*3). Since then, the companies have been advancing the joint development of industry-specific, task-oriented AI solutions and the integration of Claude into NEC BluStellar Scenario (*4, *5). Going forward, NEC will further deepen collaboration under this global partnership while verifying AI safety and governance.

Initiatives

1. "Client Zero:" NEC becomes its own First Client

As part of its Client Zero initiative, NEC will utilize Mythos in its software development, system operations, and vulnerability management processes to internally verify effectiveness, safety, and operational rules. Specifically, NEC will evaluate AI-based vulnerability detection methods and explore their application to its internal vulnerability management processes. By applying the insights gained through its own practical experience to the design, implementation methods, governance, and personnel training for services, NEC aims to enhance the value it provides.

2. Further Advancements in Vulnerability Mitigation

Mythos’ advanced software analysis capabilities detect new vulnerabilities with high accuracy.

NEC applies these capabilities to security vulnerability countermeasures in its own system integration and software development to improve quality.

Furthermore, combining this with verification by NEC’s security experts and proprietary threat intelligence will enable NEC to achieve the vulnerability management required for the frontier AI era.
