NEC Receives Order for "SpectralWave WX-T" Transponder from NTT

- Deploying nationwide next-generation network infrastructure to advance the IOWN initiative -

NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) has received an order from NTT Corporation (NTT) for the "SpectralWave WX-T" transponder, which converts optical signals into electrical signals and vice versa, as part of efforts to realize the IOWN APN (All-Photonics Network), a next-generation innovative network infrastructure. This product is one of the new information and communications infrastructure components of IOWN and is scheduled to be deployed across NTT's nationwide network in the future.

SpectralWave WX-T

The SpectralWave WX-T corresponds to the APN-T (Open APN Transceiver) proposed in the IOWN Global Forum's Open APN. It achieves miniaturization and low power consumption, and will be installed in telecommunications facilities and end-user sites (such as data centers and office buildings) to connect the core network with user devices. This will establish the foundation for next-generation high-speed communications infrastructure in NTT's network, enabling support for diverse use cases through further network performance enhancements and addressing challenges such as increased power consumption associated with increased data capacity.

Additionally, the Network Operating System (NEC NOS) incorporated in this product is the first in the world to receive Gold Badge certification under the "Phoenix" project (Note 1), which is part of the Telecom Infra Project’s (TIP) (Note 2) efforts to promote the openness of optical IP networks (Note 3).

Key features of this product are as follows:

1. Advanced fault analysis support through information output functionality

Developed in collaboration with NTT, this product features high-frequency and detailed information output functions that support advanced fault analysis, such as real-time recording of communications logs and temporal tracking of events. This enables detailed visualization of issues in optical segments, allowing for rapid identification of the root cause of problems. As a result, this product achieves significant reductions in service downtime and improves network reliability.

2. Adoption of a white box architecture for both cost-effectiveness and high performance

By adopting a white box architecture utilizing general-purpose hardware, carrier-grade quality is maintained while ensuring stable procurement. As the world's first (Note 4) L-band (Note 5)-compatible white box solution, it enables flexible construction of multi-band environments.

3. Promoting the optical advancement of data center networks

By supporting the multi-band requirements of the data center market, the companies are contributing to the optical advancement of data center networks.

Going forward, NEC will continue to contribute to the realization of diverse services and a carbon-neutral society through the provision of the WX series, which achieves high-capacity transmission, low latency, and low power consumption via APN.
