Face recognition payment enabling secure and convenient hand-held payment - Kaiyo Academy [2:33]

Movie script

Kaiyo Academy is a boarding school established in 2006 for middle and high school students.

Our goal is to nurture leaders of the next generation
by developing their skills and academic abilities.
This will allow them to play an active role in society, cultivate a rich culture
and foster the students' aspirations for their future.

For them to be unique and creative with a broad range of ideas,
we believe it is highly important for students to be exposed to cutting-edge technology.
Students were provided with IC cards to make payments within the campus,
but they faced issues such as aging systems, the risk of losing cards,
and having to bear maintenance costs.

We wanted to create new added value and find a solution to these problems.

It turned out that NEC's face payment technology was just what we were looking for.

We chose NEC for its highly-accurate face recognition system and extensive achievements.

They also have an excellent support structure that ensured we were in safe hands.

It allows us to provide educational opportunities so students can be exposed to cutting-edge technology.
Paying with a mask on ensures good hygiene is kept.
For the school, we can reduce operation and maintenance costs......and we can avoid worrying about cards getting lost.

The students get to personally experience cutting-edge technology,
and we can see how excited they are for it.

I'm sure people don't like carrying things around when they exercise,
so the great thing about this system is you only need your face to pay at the shop
after a workout.

It's great how it's all hands-free.

We wanted to provide something that inspires the students,
so this is a great opportunity and experience for them.

With everything that's going on in the world, whether it's environmental or other global issues,
I felt it would be interesting to try and look for solutions with NEC.

Overview

At Kaiyo Academy, Aichi, Japan, NEC has introduced a face recognition payment service at the campus kiosks used by approximately 600 students, faculty, and staff.

This is an advanced initiative to untilize face recognition payment as a full scale commercial application in the field of education in Japan.

We asked Kaiyo Academy's key person how they came to adopt the system and how the students feel about it.
