Every day, the American dream comes true for savvy business leaders boldly expanding their businesses globally.

In a Frost and Sullivan report, NEC has been named a global leader for its biometrics capabilities and future-facing thinking.

Let's see how its technologies are transforming businesses in this part of the world.

What is the biometric business like in your region?

In the US, the border protection force*provide the traveller verification service for technology companies such as NEC to verify the identity. But that solution is particular to the US, and therefore that's why the opt-in digital identity has taken the lead.

In terms of NEC, NEC successfully deployed 3,000 touchpoints across a number of airports worldwide. Using our valued partners such as SITA, Lufthansa, Delta, and Star Alliance, just to name but a few.

What is NEC's key differentiator in biometrics?

First of all, NEC is absolutely dedicated to prioritizing the safety, security, and efficiency of our customers' identity when passing through airports. Also, our privacy by design approach is actually enables customers to opting in. They can choose when, where and how to use their digital ID and how it can be utilized.

We've also been voted number one by the National Institute of Standards and Technology for speed and accuracy.

I would also point to a recent white paper by FindBiometrics, which demonstrated that if you compared (Digital IDs enabled by the likes of) NEC biometric solutions when moving through airports and using our technology, there'll be a 60% improvement in processing times compared to using manual processing.

How are your customers using biometrics to transform?

One very good example with our partnership with Star Alliance in Frankfurt Airport, where utilizing our technology in terms of passengers moving from check-in through to the gate, it's been demonstrated, we've been able to improve throughput by 30% and crucially, by not actually increasing or changing the carbon footprint.

What are you most excited about for the future of biometrics?

The great opportunity we have now is to move beyond the airport. So curb to pillow, so how we can utilize this technology in retail outlets, hotels, entertainment, and so on.

That's the next really big opportunity and AI, I think, is going to be critical in enabling us to actually demonstrate this.
