What is the biometric business like in your region?

NEC has been in the biometrics business in the region for over 20 years.
Our focus was originally on the public sector where we successfully developed multiple biometrics solutions for civil and criminal identification in most countries in the region.
One use case for our biometrics is civil identification.
We work not only with national documents, passports or voting systems, but also to facilitate different online transactions via mobile devices.
For example, in Argentina, the national government is providing an online identification service to different organizations, both governmental and private, to facilitate these online transactions through secure identification.

What is NEC's key differentiator in biometrics?

The reason why NEC remains a longtime leader in the biometrics market is mainly due to two factors. Firstly, having the best algorithm technology as a result of decades of investment in research and development.
Secondly, excellent professional services that includes more than 20 years of software development experience for the region.
This combination allows us to provide high-quality solutions, with a fundamental factor being adapting our solutions to the needs of each client.

How are your customers using biometrics to transform?

Biometrics technologies are used across different industries such as finance, retail, telecommunications, and more to provide secure transactions to their customers through self-assisted applications.

What are you most excited about for the future of biometrics?

Biometrics are definitely the basis for linking real-world identity with a secure digital identity.
This allows for the growth of online activities through transactions running on different applications across multiple industries.
This will probably be the most important use of biometrics technology in the coming years, which combined with others such as blockchain will allow for the development of self-sovereign identity solutions.
