Biometrics Interview Series: Face to Face with India

NEC's key differentiator in biometrics is our technology, which is more efficient and more accurate.

With umached cultural diversity, and hosting the world's largest population, India's thriving economy solidifies its status as a pivotal market for businesses poised for growth and success.

In a Frost and Sullivan report, NEC has been named a global leader for its biometrics capabilities and future-facing thinking. Let's see how its technologies are transforming businesses and enriching people's lives in this part of the world.

What is the biometric business like in your region?

I see a drastic change in the way the biometric industry has grown in last one decade or so, since we started working in India as a country for our solutions, biometric solutions to be deployed.
We ourselves, have deployed this technology in many cities, including the National Capital and major cities across India.
So basically there are two ways it is deployed currently in India. And the growth we see in both ways.
One is the Identity Management Solution, wherein, we want to identify one person to deliver him some services, against a large number of people.
Other one is Authentication Services, which is used for delivering government service program like Aadhaar.

What is NEC's key differentiator in biometrics?

NEC's key differentiator in biometrics is our technology, which is more efficient and more accurate.
We have been ranked number one in various testing been done by NIST, which is a US government agency, which benchmarks biometrics technologies across the globe.
And whenever we participated in these tests, our algorithm or our technology has been ranked number one in terms of not only the speed, but also accuracy and efficiency, because of which our technology is better than the competition.
And another aspect is how we deploy this with the use case which customers require.

How are your customers using biometrics to transform?

We are living in a society which has scarce resources and where resources are scarce, it is important that the resources are optimally utilized and being given to the person who requires them.
National identity solution, we worked with them, and we deployed our biometric technology so that the identity management is done, whenever there is a service deliver to be done to the citizens.

What are you most excited about for the future of biometrics?

What I am seeing is that the biometric technology is now used for a lot of new use cases.
So, at one end we are a technology company. We develop solutions to identify. So then later on when we want to deploy it to as a customer, where they want to use it for better services to the customer, to their citizens or their end users we can deliver.
