Stopping Illegal Dumping with the Real-Time Waste Transportation Monitoring System
Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand
Background
Rapid economic growth may have improved our quality of life, but it has also triggered a global waste crisis.
This includes the illegal dumping of industrial waste, a persistent problem in many countries such as Thailand.
To tackle this issue, the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand(IEAT) aims to ensure proper industrial waste handling and disposal.
Associate Professor Veeris Ammarapala,
Governor, Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand:
The illegal dumping has a direct impact on the health and well-being of people.
The main objective of this project is to install a system that can prevent the illegal dumping.
NEC has developed a Real-Time Waste Transportation Monitoring System by integrating technologies such CCTV, License Plate Recognition, GPS, RFID for tracking, as well as AI and Weigh in Motion.
This system allows the controller to monitor, intercept, and inspect illegal dumping promptly.
All the way from the origin to the waste disposal site, we monitor and ensure they are delivered properly.
Solution: Real-Time Waste Transportation Monitoring System
By leveraging the Real-Time Waste Transportation Monitoring System, the Control Center oversees the movement of industrial waste, among Waste Generators, Waste Processors, and Waste Transporters.
When a Waste Generator requests waste collection, the necessary information is entered into the system.
Based on the received information, a Waste Transporter heads out to collect the industrial waste.
The system will start tracking the truck throughout the route and also facilitate monitoring and measuring waste weight.
At the checkpoint, the system verifies the truck and sends confirmed information to the Control Center promptly.
Any route deviation or data anomalies detected are raised as alerts to the Control Center, and comprehensive reports can also be generated.
Result & Future Outlook
Through this initiative aiming for sustainable coexistence, confidence is built among people living close to the industrial estate.
It also aims to create a new era of clean industry in line with the new Bio-Circular-Green(BCG) Economy.
NEC plays an important role in developing and providing a wide range of IT solutions.
The system is designed to positively impact public health as well as the environment.
Through co-creation with our customers and other stakeholders, NEC continuously contributes to realizing a sustainable future.
