Movie script
India is witnessing change at an astonishing pace. The country is witnessing rapid growth in all spheres of life and industries.
However, with the burgeoning number of air passengers and new norms of physical distance, an intelligent, safer, and touchless boarding system has become a must-have to formalise seamless and faster air travel.
To address these in a proactive manner, The Airports Authority of India decided to embark on a journey to deliver Next-Gen air travel experience to air travellers in India.
The Airports Authority of India decided to partner with NEC to deploy face recognition and biometric solutions across multiple airports in India so that the face of every air passenger becomes their boarding pass to make the boarding process easier for all.
NEC's Digital ID solution integrated with SITA has enabled biometric processing that ensures a seamless airport experience for passengers.
Biometric boarding under the governments DigiYatra initiative at four airport and subsequently across various other airports in the country.
Passengers would be required to do a one-time registration of their details on the DigiYatra app to avail of the services.
The opt-in service offered by the face recognition platform will significantly reduce the number of times passengers need to present physical documents, passports, and boarding passes.
"It's a real game changer, let me tell you. With DigiYatra, we have reduced the timing to less than 50%, maybe 40%. So previously, what used to take 10 seconds, now we are taking maybe 4 seconds and I feel very proud that Varanasi International Airport became the pioneer airport to start DigiYatra supported by NEC and we are forging ahead. The data showed that we had covered 56% of the passengers travelling to our airport by DigiYatra."
