Tokyo, October 17, 2013 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) signed a partnership with Clube Atletico Paranaense (Atletico-PR), a leading Brazilian soccer team, to provide cutting-edge information and communications technologies (ICT), including security systems, audio and video systems at the club's renovated stadium.
NEC is providing solutions to Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil, one of the host stadiums for the FIFA World Cup in 2014. These solutions feature highly networked and integrated technologies that help to ensure security and provide high quality audio and visual systems.
The networked system will contribute to securing the stadium with 140 cameras that monitor for emergencies and may perform facial recognition, enabling stadium operators to better understand the needs of audience members based on characteristics that include age, gender and location.
The project includes IP and wireless network infrastructure for telephony, as well as the implementation and monitoring of sophisticated sound systems, giant screens, lighting and air conditioning. These systems are all fully integrated by NEC, whose know-how in providing integrated solutions for stadiums is supported by projects spanning a variety of countries.
NEC is providing these solutions in cooperation with AEG, a partner of Atletico-PR, who will manage the Arena da Baixada for ten years.
"Major sporting events in Brazil are an ideal opportunity to contribute to the technological advancement of the community," says Mario Celso Petraglia, president of Arena CAP. "These investments represent an important stage in the transformation of entertainment provided by large facilities, generating benefits for society even after events come to a close."
"These solutions add meaningful value to the stadium experience while helping to increase revenue and reduce expenses," says Herberto Yamamuro, CEO of NEC in Brazil. "It is an honor to participate in this project and NEC will continue to promote its portfolio of solutions that help to advance smart cities and multipurpose arenas in Brazil."
