Tokyo, April 10, 2013 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) and Chongqing City, one of China's four national central cities (*), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form a strategic partnership in the smart city and cloud service areas.
As one of China's leading municipalities and the central city for strategic development in the country's middle-west region, Chongqing aims to shift from an industrial-oriented economy to a communications industry hub.
Based on this partnership, NEC and Chongqing will create an ecosystem of human resources for the development of IT, cutting-edge technologies, products and services for local, national and global markets.
NEC regards Chongqing as a strategic base for its business in China, providing cloud services that support social infrastructure and smart city projects, as well as contributing to the city's industrial development with information and communication technologies.
