*** For immediate use March 28, 2013

Tokyo, March 28, 2013 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) has been selected to provide a third soccer stadium in Brazil with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as part of its continuing support of smart city development in the region.

NEC was most recently selected to provide the Arena Fonte Nova, in Salvador, with ICT infrastructure. This is in addition to previously announced projects for the Arena do Grêmio, in Porto Alegre, and the Arena Pernambuco, in Recife.

In the next few years, Brazil is hosting two of the world's biggest sporting events, the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2013 and the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In preparation for these events, ICT infrastructure is being prepared for stadiums throughout the country, including data network systems and security solutions that enable the control of monitoring cameras.

In addition to these projects, NEC is also contributing to the smart city development surrounding these stadiums in cooperation with the Odebrecht Group, a Brazilian multinational that operates in the engineering and construction, petrochemical, energy, bioenergy, oil and gas, real estate and environmental engineering sectors, as well as the OAS Group, one of the largest construction and utility companies in Brazil.

NEC will fully integrate the infrastructure for Arena Fonte Nova, including IP and wireless networks for telephony, data and images. The project also includes a state-of-the-art sound system and large-scale video screens rivaling those of the largest stadiums in the world. The arena will also have advanced security systems with integrated cameras, fire detection systems and building management systems.

Moreover, Fonte Nova will use Media Digital Out of Home (MDOOH) technology to provide digital signage information for LED screens, offering fast and efficient communications that are customized for audience interests.

"We are proud to receive these multiple orders for stadium and smart city projects," said Masahiro Ikeno, general manager, Americas and EMEA Sales Divisions, NEC Corporation. "We consider this selection as recognition of our highly reliable solutions and will continue to drive the development of smart city business, especially in Central America, South America and Asia Pacific, where we provide for local demands with our ICT, big data processing, energy and security technologies."

Going forward, NEC will continue to capitalize on its public safety solutions, sensing device solutions and international trials of smart houses and energy storage in order to provide markets all over the world with the most advanced smart energy and smart city solutions.
