NEC EXPRESSCLUSTER software was chosen to achieve fast, automatic failover that ensured business continuity and disaster management.
EXPRESSCLUSTER family of integrated High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) software enables fast recovery and continuous protection of critical applications and data. This software observes system operations, detecting failures and automatically transferring operations to a standby server that continues to carry out application workloads. Unplanned downtime mitigation against hardware, software, and site failures and planned downtime mitigation against periodic hardware and software maintenance tasks that require system restart are also addressed.
Challenges
AV Global, a renowned logistics solution provider required a solution that could take care of downtime that resulted from system failures, OS & application failures.

Solution
NEC’s EXPRESSCLUSTER software was chosen to achieve fast, automatic failover & recovery of logistics applications in the event of OS, hardware and application software failure. EXPRESSCLUSTER provides protection against planned and unplanned failures of AV Global's IT infrastructure.
It act as a constant server monitor that detects the problem and provides automatic recovery to minimize the server downtime
NEC's EXPRESSCLUSTER X software provides:
- Ultimate business continuity solution with scaling up to their future Disaster Recovery need.
- Protection against planned and unplanned failures to AV Global critical IT infrastructure.
- Acts as a constant server monitor that detects problem and provides automatic recovery to minimize the server downtime to 2 minutes.
The software's salient features include:
(1) Supports Non-disruptive Failover for Virtualization Systems: Enables coordination with virtualization software. Operations can quickly resume facilitating application workloads on virtual machines to restart activity in the same position as just prior to a failure.
(2) Accelerated Data Synchronization: Data synchronization gets significantly accelerated between active servers and standby servers during both a system's initial implementation and its recovery from a failure. This new function, which synchronizes only the actual data on a disk, can complete synchronization of a 1000 GB disk in approximately 10 minutes from initial implementation. Existing technologies require approximately 1,000 minutes carrying out the same task.
(3) Improved Management Interface: In terms of settings, selections appear automatically on screen following the input of a minimum amount of information by the user, which enables settings to be easily selected during the system's initial implementation. Furthermore, the management screen's graphic user interface (GUI) has been improved for greater usability.
