Irving, Texas - January 12, 2015 – NEC Corporation of America (NEC), a leading provider and integrator of advanced IT, communications, network managed services and multimodal biometric solutions, along with NEC Corporation in Japan, today announced that it was awarded a multi-year biometrics service contract with Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD), the largest Sheriff's department and fourth largest law enforcement agency in the nation.
At the core of these services is NEC's Integra ID 5(R), a Multimodal Biometrics Identification Solution (MBIS) that supports the current and future identification needs of LASD. Integra ID 5 Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) has built-in support of numerous biometrics modalities including fingerprint, palmprint, face, iris, voice and DNA. NEC's award winning and independently verified best-in-class fingerprint and NeoFace facial recognition technologies are included in the service offerings.
"NEC responded to our tender for a service-based biometrics system and following a rigorous selection process we are pleased to be working with NEC for our next generation identification needs," said Lt. Josh Thai of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. "NEC's experience in offering such solutions, their leading fingerprint and facial recognition technology and their ability to meet our business continuity and disaster recovery requirements, all under a flat monthly fee were among key advantages of the NEC offering."
"The LASD award, following our award from the Western Identification Network in 2012, once again distinguishes NEC as the premier provider of Identity as a Service (IDaas) to law enforcement agencies in North America," said Raffie Beroukhim Vice President of the NEC Biometrics Solutions Division.
Included in NEC's services are an active-active disaster recovery solution located in NEC's FBI CJIS-compliant (Criminal Justice Information System) Data Center, Network and Remote Managed Services as well as standards, EBTS-based (Electronic Biometric Transmission Specifications) interfaces with state and local agencies including California Department of Justice, Western Identification Network and FBI Next Generation Identification (NGI).
"We are very pleased to have earned the opportunity to partner and provide the identification needs of LASD," added Raffie Beroukhim. "We are confident that our Integra ID 5 with NeoFace technology, an integral part of NEC's 'Safer Cities' platform (*), will enable LASD to solve even more crimes and serve the public safety and security needs of citizens of Los Angeles County for years to come."
(*) NEC's Safer Cities concept supports the growing safety and security vision to merge the traditional law enforcement areas of biometric-based identity management and forensic investigation with video surveillance, security access control, and disaster management.
