NEC Installs First-Ever Unified Hospitality Application Suite at The Woodlands Resort NEC becomes First Company to Offer Unique Hospitality Applications on a Single Server Platform

*** For immediate use June 24, 2014

Irving, Texas & Tokyo – June 24 2014 – NEC Corporation of America (NEC), a leading provider and integrator of advanced IT, communications, managed services and biometric solutions, along with NEC Corporation today announced that The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center, one of the world's leading destination resorts, is the first hotel to install NEC's Application Platforms for Hotels, announced to the U.S. market in April 2013. Coming from one of the pre-eminent leaders in the hospitality industry, the NEC Solution Platforms with its Application Platforms for Hotels resides on a single server platform, and is a groundbreaking first for the industry.

NEC's Application Platforms for Hotels provides a variety of NEC hospitality specific applications all on a single server platform. NEC enables the solution to be customized by allowing hotel customers to choose which applications best fit their unique property requirements. All of the applications have been pre-tested and checked prior to installation – reducing the amount of time it takes to get fully operational.

With the Application Platforms for Hotels, NEC provides a wide variety and range of hospitality applications in a very short delivery time. The comprehensive suite of applications can be accessed in real time with a simple click, presenting a range of options to the hotel staff ensuring little or no disruption in providing guest services.

The new Application Platforms for Hotels has the following features:

  1. Mission-Critical Unified Communications applications to improve productivity, such as presence, call control, instant messaging, group chat, mobility, collaboration and voice/video conferencing.
  2. A PC attendant console application designed specifically for the hospitality industry which optimizes performance and enhances guest services through a specialized keyboard, guest directory integration with PMS, HotSOS* integration, intuitive Wake-Up Call scheduling, Room-Direct-Inward Dialing, guest messages, emergency on-site notification and the ability to handle higher call volumes more efficiently.
  3. Mobility solutions ranging from mobile clients supported on both Android and iOS devices that provide single number reach and dual-mode capabilities for seamless roaming between Wi-Fi and cellular networks to WLAN and DECT mobile handsets.

The Woodlands Resort was looking for more than a basic communications system; it wanted a combination of reliability, mobile communications for its staff, and leading edge services for guests. DCI - Design Communications, Inc. a leading technology solutions and services provider, as well as a certified Platinum NEC dealer, worked with The Woodlands Resort and presented the NEC solution.

"As a world class destination resort, The Woodlands Resort was seeking a proven partner who can bring innovative, leading technology to complement the level of service our guests expect," said Jose C. Garcia, director of IT at The Woodlands. "Our decision to select NEC is based on its history of success in the hospitality industry, proven support, and a highly innovative solution. Additionally, NEC will provide us with a seamless transition to an all-IP platform."

Located in the master planned community of The Woodlands, about 30 minutes north of Houston and established in 1974, The Woodlands Resort offers 36 holes of championship golf and is undergoing an extensive renovation and expansion that will be completed in the Fall of 2014, adding 184 guest rooms to its original base of 220 plus rooms and its 60,000 square feet of meeting space.

"NEC understands the hospitality industry very well and we have used that knowledge to create the Application Platforms for Hotels, an exciting new approach that makes access to applications a smooth experience," said Larry Levenberg, vice president, NEC Corporation of America. "Applications have become fundamental to improving the customer experience which is such an important part of a service- based industry. We are looking forward to supporting The Woodlands with an innovative communications system highlighted by on- site mobility and access to a broad range of hotel applications."
