NEC and Wellington City Council, New Zealand reached an agreement that aims to bring cutting-edge technology to the Capital City

Tokyo, May 26, 2014 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced today that NEC New Zealand Limited signed a 'memorandum of collaboration' with Wellington City Council, New Zealand.
Under this agreement, NEC will provide cutting edge technologies in order to enhance the performance and efficiency of Wellington's public infrastructure, including transportation networks, as part of supporting Wellington City Council's 'Towards 2040: Smart Capital' economic and technology strategy.
Mayor Celia Wade-Brown says the non-exclusive agreement with NEC could enable the company and the Council to test and perfect a range of technologies. "NEC needs to partner with real organizations – with real services and customer needs – so it can develop and fine-tune its technologies. In a manner of speaking, Wellington City Council could be a 'test bed' for NEC technologies – this would be to the benefit of the city and its people."
NEC will work collaboratively with Wellington City Council to develop innovative solutions along with various local partners and collaborators, by leveraging its knowledge, ideas and state of the art technologies to explore the creation of new possibilities with the ultimate focus being both the New Zealand and export market.
