Johannesburg, South Africa, April 30, 2014 – NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced today that it is showcasing its latest range of intelligent security solutions for the enterprise and government markets at the International Fire and Security Exhibition and Conference (IFSEC) in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 13–15 May 2014. This includes NEC's market leading video surveillance, image analytics, facial and fingerprint recognition solutions which are widely used to help safeguard lives and properties on a global basis.
NEC's end-to-end video surveillance solutions include best-in-class control room display solutions and video analytics software. For example, NEC's intelligent analytics software monitors video data to automatically identify suspicious behavior and events to help reduce the cost and increase the accuracy of monitoring by security personnel.
This is complemented by NEC's NeoFace Watch facial recognition system which matches security camera images in real-time against watch list databases of individuals suspected of presenting a criminal or public safety threat, missing persons or important guests. NEC was recently awarded the 2014 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Customer Value Leadership for its facial recognition solution. NeoFace Reveal, which uses a variety of intelligence image processing algorithms to enhance poor quality facial images for forensic crime or analysis, will also be demonstrated.
The police and security services in over 20 countries now use NEC's NeoFace technology. NEC's technology not only provides a potent crime deterrent but also helps identify suspicious behavior in public areas such as central business districts, airports, shopping malls, schools and healthcare facilities.
Visitors to IFSEC will also be able to experience NEC Field Analyst which analyzes live video feeds and provides data about the age, gender and dwell-time of people within range of the camera. This can be used to drive real-time customer demographic profiling and highly targeted digital advertising in retail stores.
NEC will also demonstrate its contactless hybrid finger scanner that simultaneously assesses a person's fingerprint and finger vein to provide the highest possible level of recognition accuracy and prevent identity fraud. NEC's Auto Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) is already used by law enforcement agencies in the United States, Australia and Brazil for voter registration in Bolivia and for citizen identification in South Africa, amongst others.
Eugene le Roux, President & MD of NEC Africa (Pty) Ltd said, "The growth in urbanisation and fears about crime and terrorism are driving significant demand for NEC's security solutions on a global basis. NEC offers an end-to-end solution with market leading hardware, analytics software and advanced network integration know-how. With our extensive experience in supporting government and enterprise security programmes in Africa and around the world, NEC is a partner you can rely on to help create a safer world."
