Tokyo & Rome, October 31, 2012 NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) will showcase its security solutions at the 81st ICPO-INTERPOL General Assembly Exhibition at Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Rome, Italy from November 5 to 8, 2012. NEC will demonstrate an innovative portfolio aimed at assisting law enforcement agencies worldwide to safeguard lives and property. Key features include:
1. Cyber security, Digital Forensics – With the fast changing landscape of cyber attacks, traditional defensive measures can no longer be relied on. IT managers need to recognize that their employees are not sufficiently equipped to protect themselves against the sophisticated skills of cyber attackers. Single product defenses are often times helpless in the face of complicated attacks. A review of corporate-wide security implementation is necessary to identify gaps and define solutions that fully secure organizations, given shrinking budgets and resources. NEC has adopted this approach and the company will share valuable lessons learned from its experience.
2. NeoFace Watch
NEC will showcase NeoFace Watch, the company's face recognition solution designed for use in security and public safety applications. The Neoface Watch solution works by matching images that are captured in real-time against a pre-defined database or watch list of individuals, who could be suspected of security or public safety threats, missing persons or other individuals who may be under some form of surveillance. NEC face recognition technologies were ranked No. 1 for speed and accuracy in the MBE Still-Face Track in 2010, carried out by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), commissioned by the Department of Homeland Security.
3. Image and Specific Scene Analysis
This solution automatically locates and indexes people and cars that appear in images taken by surveillance cameras. Detailed searches for specific scenes may also be conducted based on conditions such as colors, shapes or time of day. Moreover, if the quality of an image is poor, functions such as contrast enhancement and de-noise enable users to sharpen the image.
4. INTER-AGENCY COLLABORATION
NEC's Inter-agency Collaboration Framework uses advanced technology to address the complex issues of collecting, analyzing and transmitting exceptionally large amounts of data -- or big data -- among agencies, and then enhancing its value in order to enable cross-agency cooperation. NEC offers solutions for gathering data, a platform for exchanging data and an operations centre for managing a wide range of data input, together with analytics that provide valuable conclusions about the collected information.
NEC is a leading provider of integrated IT and networking solutions that seeks to empower and enable agencies, municipalities and cities to take preventive and protective measures to enhance public safety and security – in both the physical and cyber world. It has introduced the concept of 'safer cities' which aims to help public and private institutions make use of advanced technologies to protect lives and property. The concept leverages the company's established technologies and solutions which have been deployed for national identification, law enforcement, immigration, emergency and disaster response organizations throughout the world.
