Tokyo, September 12, 2012 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) is presenting several solutions specifically designed to meet the needs of public safety at ICMedia 2012(*), the International Conference on Multimedia Forensics, Surveillance and Security held between 18 and 21 September in Brasilia, Brazil.

Organized by the Brazilian National Association of Forensic Experts (APCF), in partnership with the Federal Government, National Institute of Information Technology, Federal Police and the Associação Brasileira das Empresas de Tecnologia em Identificação Digital (ABRID), Brazil's principal industry association for technology companies specializing in digital ID, the event aims to promote and discuss security alternatives in Brazil, such as electronic surveillance and biometrics, given the proximity of major events that will take place in the country in coming years, including the World Cup and the Olympics.

Massato Takakuwa, Director of government business for NEC in Brazil, explains that the event brings together leading industry professionals, security, police, government and researchers to promote a debate essential to the development of security in Brazil. "Let's take this opportunity to show the importance of advanced technologies for the development of security processes through the presentation of innovative video analysis and research that help to modernize public institutions, such as the Brazilian police force," he says.

Specifically, NEC's DNA Analyzer, a portable and compact platform for immediate analysis of genetic material, will be on display. The technology employs specialized methods that enable the study of material at the site of a crime scene. This solution produces results in a matter of minutes for tests that labs traditionally require a day or more for completion.

NEC will hold a lecture on Thursday, 20 September at 17:20 on the importance of strategies on security, international experiences and to present the DNA Analyzer to the public. The presentation will be conducted by NEC Brazil System Expert, Marcos Alberto de Souza.

Additionally, the company will have a second booth to present other solutions for the security market, such as J-BIS, a system for immigration control at airports and border points that uses biometric recognition to identify travelers. There is also a Super Resolution technology that enriches the resolution of images in low definition by analysis and cross referencing information databases (or libraries) of categorized images, which may assist in locating subjects such as people and vehicles.

High Sensitivity Cameras will also be presented, which feature highly advanced technology that allows users to capture video in very low ambient lighting with superior quality to other systems. Furthermore, NEC will present Meta Search, a video processing solution that can analyze various characteristics of people or the environment in order to locate suspects through information such as gender, age, color of clothing and facial characteristics, among others.

"This event is an important opportunity for introducing new security technologies to Brazil. NEC is seeking to directly contribute to the evolution of public and private security of the country through the implementation of important projects with the government," concludes Takakuwa.
