*** For immediate use May 16, 2012
Tokyo, May 16, 2012 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced today the availability of advanced servers based on the new Intel(R) Xeon(R) E5-2400 product family.
NEC's newest additions to its server family, the Express5800/R120d-2E, R120d-1E and T120d servers, incorporate the Intel(R) Xeon(R) processor E5-2400 product family and are powered by NEC's innovative energy control technologies, system management capabilities and high flexibility. These features help simplify system installation and management as well as optimize overall IT investment and operational costs. Furthermore, the performance of on-premises server infrastructure, such as corporate data centers and branch offices, is also improved.
Later this year, NEC will release blade servers with the same Intel(R) architecture that are ideal for medium- and large-scale enterprise server infrastructure.
"In order to maximize ROI within a limited budget and human resources, it is necessary to optimize both upfront IT investments and IT system operational expenses," said Tetsuhide Senta, Assistant General Manager of the IT Network Global Solutions Division, NEC Corporation. "These new EXPRESS5800 2-socket servers, featuring Intel's latest Xeon processor E5-2400 series, offer ideal performance as well as easy installation and operation with NEC's innovative technologies. Moreover, these servers enable energy conservation both in terms of the power consumption of IT equipment and air conditioning costs."
Primary features of the new Express5800 servers include:
High Temperature Support:
Operable in ambient temperatures as high as 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) for compatibility with a wide variety of climate conditions. This technology helps offices and data centers to reduce facility cooling costs, total power consumption and CO2 emissions without sacrificing uptime.
High Energy Efficiency:
In addition to a scheduled operation function that does not require an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), a scheduled power capping function has been added. The new servers enable more powerful and flexible energy control than the previous models.
Simplified Manageability:
NEC's enterprise-class server management technology, EXPRESSSCOPE Engine 3, is integrated to achieve direct and secure access to the controller without special software. Also, the 6th generation setup tool, EXPRESSBUILDER Ver.6, enables auto OS installation after a 2-minute manual setting without technical skills.
Flexible System Solution:
This lineup features the "R120d-2E Storage Rich" server with up to twenty-six 2.5-inch HDDs and 26TB disk capacity. This large storage capacity is ideal for consolidation of small-scale storage. NEC's new rack server portfolio with this Storage Rich model can achieve server consolidation through both computing and storage.
AvailabilityNEC's new Express5800 servers will be available in late May 2012 and progressively distributed worldwide. Shipping dates differ according to model and country.
