London & California, 12 April 2012 - NEC Corporation and Abiquo today announced a collaboration agreement which reinforces NEC's Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offering with Abiquo's cloud service orchestration and management software.
As a result, NEC's new IaaS solution improves flexibility and leads to a reduction of operational cost by providing customers with a single virtual platform to build and operate cloud services.
With Abiquo's technology-agnostic cloud orchestration, NEC's IaaS solution can host up to six different hypervisors: VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix Xen, Citrix Xen OpenSource, Oracle Virtual box and KVM. In addition, it allows customers to move virtual machines from one hypervisor to another within a few minutes and manage a distributed cloud services across several datacentres.
Managed by the NEC Cloud Competence Centre in Madrid, the self-service solution lets end users request and use IT resources "on-demand" without any intervention from IT professionals.
NEC can also resell Abiquo's product as a software package that can be installed in a customer's own datacentre.
"Abiquo's technology allows NEC to offer a much more dynamic solution for telecom carriers and internet service providers", said Jaime Gutierrez, NEC global product manager for IaaS. "We found Abiquo to be the best solution on the market to deliver highly flexible, mature and technology-agnostic cloud orchestration features which meet our enterprise customers' demand."
"By enhancing NEC's cloud offering, we can bring the benefits of Abiquo's award-winning solution to a broader audience, and capitalise on the extensive global market for enterprise cloud", said Pete Malcolm, Abiquo CEO.
NEC's Cloud Competence Centre operates as a cloud enabler for telecom carriers and internet service providers. It helps them to develop and deliver cloud solutions to their customers addressing different business models and covering several areas like infrastructure, software, desktop, communications and storage.
