NEC Chairman Kaoru Yano to Appear as Keynote Speaker at Open Networking Summit 2012

*** For immediate use April 12, 2012

Tokyo, April 12, 2012 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced today that Chairman Kaoru Yano will participate as a keynote speaker at the Open Networking Summit in  Santa Clara on April 17, 2012. The speech is titled, "Proven and Emerging Use Cases of Software Defined Networks."

In recent years, IT systems have become increasingly large and complex. End users, data and computing resources are moving dynamically throughout the globe. For this reason, demand for flexible convergence between networks and information systems is on the rise. NEC, being one of the innovators in information technology, has put a strong focus on Software Defined Networking (SDN) as it recognized the importance of software-centric networking with the inception of standards such as OpenFlow. NEC pioneered the commercialization of products and promoted the awareness and deployment of SDN. NEC is committed to driving the adoption of SDN for commercial systems and to delivering the value of SDN to customers.

In this keynote, Mr. Yano will explain the value and potential of SDN as learned during NEC's numerous customer deployments. He will also showcase NEC's research activities and share the importance of an open community for the development of the SDN market, along with predictions for the future. The domain of SDN will expand from data center, service provider and enterprise networks to carrier transport and beyond. As NEC strives to achieve its NEC Group Vision 2017 to create an "information society friendly to humans and the earth," the company will continue to collaborate with partners to build an open community and to deliver the value of SDN to customers.

"The keynote addresses at Open Networking Summit 2012 are a very important aspect of the summit and will help set the stage for a broader conversation about OpenFlow and SDN," said Guru Parulkar, executive director of the Stanford University Clean Slate Research Program and chairman of the 2012 Summit. "As a longtime supporter of SDN and OpenFlow, NEC will provide invaluable insight into the technologies and innovative services to help prepare attendees for the networking revolution."
