Dr. Shigemi Kitahara,
Chair of the Board of Directors
Kitahara Neurosurgical Institute:
What the patients desire the most is an absolutely positive outcome,
and the shortest period of treatment.
Another aspect is a comfortable environment.
On the other hand from the viewpoint of the medical staff,
the essential point is maintaining a good work environment.
Everything depends on these.
To accomplish this, I believe,
a large-scale IT implementation for the hospital is the only way.
As the solution, for years
we've been contemplating a digital hospital.
IT implementation at hospitals up until now
has been limited to areas such as clerical work and logistics.
Now we're trying to take a huge step
and implementing it to diagnosis, treatment and other areas.
we must maintain the safety of our patients
by predicting agitated behaviors ahead of time.
We're also trying to step forward in diagnosis and treatment.
For example, staff may discuss how to proceed
with examination and diagnostic process with AI.
This enables every staff
both experienced and newer doctors and nurses
to equally provide treatment with high quality.
Another benefit is that we'll also streamline
the patient handoffs for the critical care.
Just hand over a headset to a staff who works at the position next,
and all necessary information can be transferred.
NEC is working with us to find better ways to leverage digital technologies
for the various parts of our hospital services.
I am confident that NEC will pioneer
the automation system for the hospital services.
Orchestrating a brighter world
Kitahara Neurological Institute (KNI) promotes "Digital hospitals", where advanced ICT is implemented as a medical/social innovation.
For its realization, KNI and NEC are engaged in co-creation activities for improvement of the quality of medical treatment and work efficiency.
