NEC Para-Sports Channel : Paratriathlon
Overview
August 21, 2016, Nagaragawa Paratriathlon was held in Kaizu City, Gifu Prefecture.
Paratriathlon became a Paralympic official sport for the first time in the Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games. Physically disabled or visually impaired athletes competed in three continuous and sequential endurance disciplines: 0.75km swim, 20km bike and 5km run. The competition is classified by the levels and types of disabilities, and visually impaired athletes participate with guides. Bike adaptations vary depending on the disability class. In addition, taking off wet suits or getting on/off racing wheelchairs can be done with the help of official supporters (handlers). This video captures the exciting race of athletes challenging a tough triathlon despite their disabilities.
