Open Mission Critical System (OMCS)

Why are Open Mission Critical Solutions in demand?

The first reason

Many enterprises that depend on highly reliable mainframe systems to perform critical tasks are now gravitating toward mission critical systems that use open platform technologies such as UNIX, LINUX and Windows.

Open systems enable the integration of almost any best-of-breed products available in the world. However, untested product combinations may result in faulty operation, bugs, and lackluster performance. Therefore, it is risky to simply replace a legacy mainframe with an open system without in-depth consideration.

To minimize such risks, NEC employs field-proven products and technology when integrating a system, and performs extensive theoretical verification and prototype evaluation of unverified products before incorporating them. NEC's extensive knowledge gained through vast experience in open systems allows NEC to actually implement such methodologies.

NEC's open systems integration know-how, combined with mission critical expertise gained from the development and deployment of its proprietary ACOS system, enable the company to develop open systems capable of handling critical missions at levels equal to or surpassing legacy mainframes.

Even if all separate hardware and software components offer high mission criticality, few vendors can deliver comprehensive mission criticality for an integrated system. What makes NEC unique is its ability to successfully achieve mission criticality in a total system by using its own VALUMOware line of extended middleware products and reliable platform integration technology.

The second reason

Until recently, many large enterprises employed different hardware and software systems in different divisions. Now many of these enterprises aim to enhance service by interconnecting the different systems. While Hub & Spoke architecture may enable such inter-system collaboration, a lot more than EAI technology is required. Total system mission criticality must also be achieved for the database, hardware, middleware, and other components to prevent the hub from going down and totally suspending operations. NEC's open mission critical systems represent optimal solutions for resolving these issues.
