Notes on using Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

A security alert dialog appears when using NEC Storage software.

Situation

A Windows Security Alert dialog may appear when transferring files to/from servers by executing a certain function of an NEC Storage Manager (iSM) client or WebSAM Storage PerforNavi (PerforNavi) on an Express server operating on Windows Server 2003 SP1 (Service Pack 1).

Conditions

This occurs when the following two conditions are met:

  1. An iSM client or PerforNavi is used on an Express server operating on Windows Server 2003 SP1.
  2. One of the following functions for file transfer to/from the server is used:
    1. iSM client
      • The "failure information collection" function is executed in the main screen.
      • The "configuration information acquisition" function is executed in the configuration setting screen.
      • The "download statistical information files" function is executed in the performance screen.
      • The "BUSY ratio graph display" or "re-arrangement effectiveness prediction" function is executed in the performance optimization screen.
    2. PerforNavi
      • The "download performance information" function is executed from the iSM server.
      • The "download the volume table" function is executed from the operation server.

How to handle

The following Windows Security Alert dialog appears when files are transferred.

"To help protect your computer, Windows Firewall has blocked some features of this program. Do you want to keep blocking this program?
Name: File Transfer Program
Publisher: Microsoft Corporation"

Select "Unblock."
This dialog will not appear once "Unblock" is selected.

How to check if the problem has been handled

Check that "File Transfer Program" is checked and registered under the "Exceptions" tab of Windows Firewall in Control Panel.

Use the "Edit" button to check the path of the registered program (it is usually C:\WINDOWS\system32\ftp.exe).
