NEC Storage NAS Basic Software supports the following functions in order to realize the high-availability required for a network file server.
A cluster configuration is supported in which two sets of NEC Storage NV Series equipment are connected together through a high-speed communication path in order to back up each other. If either one of the nodes fails, the remaining node will take over to process network files that have been under control of the failed node for continuing service to clients.
The following functions are supported in order to maintain network accessibility even when a network is partially disconnected or failures occur in certain hubs.
Even when network connection cables are disconnected or port failures occur in network switches, the link aggregation function as per IEEE802.3ad will provide port grouping functions to maintain connections with clients.
Connection to disks is made redundant so that disk access can be maintained even when a link fails. Also in a cluster environment, even when direct disk access is disabled from a node, the traffic to disks can be routed via the other node to continue disk access operations.

NEC Storage NAS Basic Software supports the TCP/IP protocol, which is the Internet standard protocol, and the Gigabit Ethernet interface including TOE functions. Other network control functions such as TOE control and link aggregation functions are also offered.
The NEC Storage NAS Basic Software offers highly sophisticated and optimized file systems along with various network protocols such as NFS and NDMP.
Secure operation can be maintained by limiting accesses from NFS/CIFS clients or network administrators in different authentication levels.
