Anti-Virus (Server Protect)

The NEC Storage NV Series systems are provided with powerful anti-virus software (ServerProtect by Trend Micro Inc.). Automatic virus scanning is performed by this software upon file accesses from CIFS. Virus search for files stored in NEC Storage NV Series systems is also available. In this way, virus infection can be prevented or infected files can be disinfected for files stored in NEC Storage NV Series systems.

Virus Scan Method

Virus scan operation may be available in the following methods.

Each of the following methods can be enabled or disabled.

Real time scan

Virus check for the file is performed on the spot when a file is accessed from CIFS. This is effective mainly for files stored in the NEC Storage NV Series system being accessed by Windows clients. Virus scanning can be applied at the timings when writing or reading operations are performed to/from the NEC Storage system. The virus scan function can be enabled or disabled separately for read and write operations.

Scheduled scan

Virus scanning is performed at a preset time. Because virus scanning is applied for files stored in an NEC Storage NV Series system, this method is valid not only for the files stored via CIFS, but also for the files from NFS.

Manual scan

Virus scanning is performed when it is so commanded. Because virus scanning is applied for files stored in an NEC Storage NV Series system, this method is valid not only for the files stored via CIFS, but also for the files from NFS.

In each of the above three methods, multiple directories or file types (extensions) can be specified for a virus scan operation.

Processing upon Virus Detection

Assuming the case that a virus infection is detected, one of the following five types of actions can be specified for each of the virus scan methods described above.

Disinfection

This removes viruses from infected files.

Furthermore, one of four actions (Disinfection, isolation, renaming, and deletion) can be specified in case disinfection is unsuccessful.

Isolation

Files detected for infection are moved to a designated directory. This directory can be changed by the user.

Renaming

Infected files are renamed to have a ".vir" extension.

Deletion

Infected files are removed from the NEC Storage NV Series system.

No action

Detection of infected files is recorded into a log file. No other action is taken for dealing with the virus.

Web-Based Setup Tools

Various setup operations can be made using a Web browser on your remote PC. Any PC with a Web browser that is connected to an NEC Storage NV Series system can be used for setup operations without requiring installation of any other dedicated software programs. Also, a password protection function is provided that can be used for limiting the users of setup tools. This tool is separate from the operation management system (GUI) that is used for setting up NEC Storage NV Series systems.

Pattern File Updates

Online pattern file updates are offered. Pattern file updates can be performed by connecting to the server of Trend Micro Inc. or to one of other designated servers for downloading relevant pattern files. By regularly performing pattern file updates, your system is protected from new viruses. Pattern file updates can be done automatically in accordance with a preset schedule or manually upon accepting user commands.

Email Alerts

The system can be set up so as to issue an email report to the system administrator when a virus infection is detected. You are informed of virus infection by this function without the need to monitor the system all the time.
