SAM-FS connection verification using NEC Storage

Sun StorEdge Utilization Suite 4.0 (SAM-FS) software products by Sun Microsystems are high-performance file managers that provide advanced storage management, protection, and recovery. As a result of the connection verification with the NEC Storage S series, NEC confirmed that the functions of SAM-FS operated properly.

Functions of SAM-FS

  1. Archive function
This function automatically copies files in online disk caches to archive media.
  2. Release function
By releasing disk blocks used by archive files, this function automatically manages magnetic disk caches of file systems in accordance with the usage rate threshold value specified in the site.
  3. Staging function
This function restores files to disk caches. When files released from disk caches are requested by users or processes, these files are automatically copied in online disk caches.
  4. Recycling function
This function clears archive volumes of invalid archive copies for recycling.

Test results and discussion

It was confirmed as a result of testing that the three basic functions of SAM-FS, the archive, release, and staging functions, were automatically and properly operated. It was also confirmed that the recycling function, too, operated properly with commands.

* This report only reports the testing result and does not guarantee proper operations in user environments.
