EXPRESSSCOPE Engine

The NEC EXPRESSSCOPE Engine untangles the complexity of your remote server management.

Overview

The NEC Express5800/100 Series and SIGMABLADE servers employ the EXPRESSSCOPE Engine, a chipset integrating a Baseboard Management Controller function, to provide extensive remote management functionality-from monitoring the health of remote server components, such as CPUs, memory, and cooling fans, to remotely operating the servers, regardless of power and operating system status.

In addition to server price reductions and improved ease of installation, widespread use of the Internet has fueled the growth in Web-based services in recent years, making it common to deploy multiple servers at a departmental, divisional, and even workgroup level. Delivering a wide range of remote management functions to break through the complexity of managing physically distributed servers, the EXPRESSSCOPE Engine allows system administrators to perform monitoring and maintenance activities with greater ease.

Functions

The EXPRESSSCOPE Engine offers the following three major functions:

Remote Monitoring

The remote server status is available to view on the local screen of a management PC. Not only are general event logs collected from the operating system, but the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) logs are also collected by the EXPRESSSCOPE Engine for remote analysis and diagnosis.

Remote Control

Administrators can remotely power on/off and reboot servers from the management PC. In the event of a failure, they can remotely perform remedial tasks on a failed server, without being physically in front of it.

Remote KVM and Media

The EXPRESSSCOPE Engine provides access to remote keyboards, displays and monitors, and allows the servers to access the storage media on the management PC as if it were directly connected to the servers.Remote Management Solution for NEC Express5800 Server

Enterprise Users

The EXPRESSSCOPE Engine is NEC's core remote management solution that interfaces with management software, such as NEC ESMPRO and DianaScope. Introduced below are two enterprise users who have successfully solved their server management complexity and achieved agility in troubleshooting by using the EXPRESSSCOPE Engine.

Manufacturing

Company A in the manufacturing has integrated its physically distributed, in-house Web servers into a single system at its distant data center and deployed the NEC Express5800 2-way servers with the EXPRESSSCOPE Engine to get around complex server management problems and improve the ease of remote operation.

Internet Data Center (IDC)

IDCs operate around the clock, managing large numbers of servers. IDC Company B has successfully reduced its administrative personnel and management costs by using the EXPRESSSCOPE Engine that enables remote servers to automatically send alerts to a management PC and be remotely operated with ease.
