Rebuild failure of Disk Mirroring Board
1. Relevant Product
NEC Express5800/110Ef [N8100-807F, N8100-808F]
2. Problem
When an appropriate key is pressed in the configuration utility of
optional PC board' BIOS, there is a possibility that POST stops.
Example) when press a key corresponded to "Rebuild" in BIOS of the
disk-mirroring controller.
3. Cause
When an appropriate key of the configuration utility was pressed,
processing of the system BIOS was incorrect.
4. Frequency of trouble
It is occurred in following condition.
1) BIOS SETUP is default setting.
2) When using the configuration utility of optional PC board' BIOS.
3) An appropriate key is pressed.
5. Measure
The first method: System BIOS Update to
"Phoenix BIOS 4.0 Release 6.0.1003" or later.
The other method: Disable LAN Option ROM configuration in BIOS SETUP MENU.
[Method]
1. Press F2key during POST.
2. Enter Advanced-> Option ROM-> On-Board LAN
3. Change from "Enable" to "Disable".

1. Phoenix BIOS 4.0 Release 6.0.0002
Be sure to check if the BIOS version of your system is one of the above
versions. Take the following procedure:
1. Turn on the machine (one of the above models).
2. The NEC logo appears on the screen.
* The POST screen may appear depending on setting with the Setup utility.
If it appears, go to Step 4.
3. Press the ESC key while the NEC logo is displayed.
4. The start screen of the basic processing unit displays the BIOS version
on line 1.
Check if the displayed BIOS version is one of the above versions.
* BIOS version: If Phoenix BIOS 4.0 Release 6.0.1003 is displayed, there is no
need to update your system. The BIOS equivalent to this BIOS update module
has been applied to the system.
[ User license agreement for NEC software ]
This user license agreement is an agreement between you and NEC Corporation.
(hereinafter called NEC). Under the following terms of this agreement NEC
grants you the right to use the software program (hereinafter called "licensed
program"), and you are to agree to the terms. You are to take responsibilities
for the choice, installation, use of the licensed program, or the results of
the usage of the licensed program.
1. Term
(1) This user license agreement goes into effect on the day you receive this
software product.
(2) You may terminate the right to use the licensed program under this user
license agreement at any time by giving NEC a month's or longer notice by
letter.
(3) NEC may terminate your right to use the licensed program at any time if you
fail to comply with the terms of this user license agreement.
(4) Your right to use the licensed program continues to exist until it
terminates in accordance with the provisions of this user license agreement.
(5) When your right to use the licensed program terminates, all of your other
rights under this user license agreement also terminate. You must destroy
the licensed program, all the copies of the licensed program, and the
related documents (e.g., manuals) provided with the licensed program as
soon as your right to use the licensed program terminates.
2. Use right
You may use the licensed program only on NEC Express server
(NEC Express5800/100 series) using your Microsoft Windows NT, Novell NetWare,
or IntranetWare.
3. Copy, alteration, and linkage of the licensed program
(1) You may make a copy of the licensed program only to use it as a backup copy
in case program data is lost or destroyed. However, this is not the case if
the licensed program is installed in fixed storage. In this case, you may
keep it only to use in case the storage medium of the licensed program is
lost or destroyed.
(2) You must give the expressions of the copyright of the licensed program and
other rights to all the copies of the licensed program.
(3) Unless otherwise specified in this user license agreement, you may not use,
copy, alter, or link the licensed program, you may not reproduce it in
publications or networks, or you may not make your own decision on handling
it in any other ways.
(4) You may not copy the related documents (e.g., manuals) provided with the
licensed program or reproduce them in publications or networks under any
circumstances.
(5) This user license agreement is not to transfer the intellectual property
for the licensed program to you.
4. Transfer of the licensed program
(1) You may transfer all of your rights under this user license agreement only
if satisfying all the following condition:
(a) You are to transfer this user license agreement, the licensed program,
all the copies of the licensed program, and the related documents
(e.g., manuals) provided with the licensed program, and retain none of
them.
(b) The recipient agrees to the terms of this user license agreement.
(2) Unless otherwise specified in this user license agreement, you may not loan
or transfer the licensed program or the right to use it to a third party,
or you may not make your own decision on handling it in any other ways.
5. Decompilation
You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the licensed program.
6. Term of a guarantee
(1) NEC does not give any guarantee for the licensed program. You are to be
liable and to pay for problems arising from the use of the licensed program.
(2) Irrespective of the term (1), when NEC corrects licensed-program errors
(bugs), NEC may, at its discretion, provide an error-corrected program,
a program for correction (hereinafter called a modification program), or
information for correction by an NEC-decided method. The modification
program provided to you is regarded as the licensed program.
7. No liability
NEC assumes no liability for your lost profit, damages arising from special
circumstances (including damages which NEC can or could foresee), or damages
you are asked for by any third party.
8. Others
Disputes over this user license agreement are to be settled at the Tokyo
District Court as the exclusively agreed competent court.

BIOS update procedures
================================================================================
Take the following procedure to extract this software and update the old BIOS:
[ Create procedure ]
Prepare a MS-DOS bootable 2HD floppy disk (1.44MB).
(1) Download SK1003.EXE to a suitable location. (The C:¥BIOS folder is the
download destination in this example.)
(2) Click the [Start] button, and then click [Run...].
(3) Enter "C:¥BIOS¥SK1003.EXE" into the "Open" field, then click the [OK]
button.
You will be prompted to confirm a folder in which to store the extracted
files.
The software is extracted in the same folder.
(4) Following files are copied on MS-DOS bootable floppy disk.
autoexec.bat
bios.rom
phlash.exe
platform.bin
(5) This will be the "BIOS update data" floppy disk.
[ BIOS update procedure ]
Take the following procedure to update the old system BIOS with the
"BIOS update data" floppy disk created in the above:
(1) Insert the "BIOS update data" floppy disk into the floppy disk drive of
the basic processing unit, then boot the system from the floppy disk drive.
(2) The following message appears when the system is started with the
"BIOS update data" floppy disk:
Starting MS-DOS
(3) The BIOS update tool is automatically activated.
This update processing takes 3 to 4 minutes. Never turn off the system
during the update processing.The following message appears when the update
processing is finished.
Flash memory has been successfully programmed
PRESS ANY KEY TO RESTART THE SYSTEM
If the system does not restart,
TURN THE POWER OFF, THEN ON
(4) Press the Enter key to reboot the system.
(5) Remove the floppy disk from the floppy disk drive according to the
instructions displayed on the screen, then restart the system.
Confirm that the start screen of the basic processing unit displays the
following BIOS version on line 1:
Phoenix BIOS 4.0 Release 6.0.1012
(6) If the following message appears when the system is started, setting [Yes]
to "Reset Configuration Data" is necessary. For how to change the settings,
see the section of configuration in the "User's Guide" supplied with the
machine.
The setting items are shown in the Advanced Sub-menu in the advanced menu
of the BIOS configuration (Setup).
ERROR
Invalid System Configuration data - run configuration utility
This completes the updating of the system BIOS.
