President Yano's Message

Narration:
Global electronics giant NEC is a company with a compelling vision for the future. Kaoru Yano, President of the NEC Corporation says it all started with the past.

YANO:
NEC is a C & C company that means computers and communications. NEC was founded in 1899, more than 100 years ago. From that time, NEC has been working on innovation to make something new for customers and for the society. So we believe that the reason why NEC exists is to innovate for society and to contribute to a better society.

Narration:
President Yano believes NEC's opportunity in the near future lies a new revolution in network technology.

YANO:
The next generation network is a little bit different from the conventional internet. Instead, it's a secure network and dependable network. So in that sense, it's a kind of new generation network. It's called next generation network.
Traditionally telecom networks are composed of network equipments but in an NGN, many computers and servers will be equipped to make the new services. NEC is very strong to make a kind of service platform. That means corporate users who want to start new services through NGN do not need to create most of their service systems by themselves. They can utilize existing service platform and on top of it, they need to build their own application.

Narration:
NEC views its role as a foundation, a player and a builder for these new services in the next generation era.

YANO:
We make a stage in the theatre for players to do their play. So in that sense we are not scenario writers, we are just making stage itself and lighting etc. Basically that is our mission. But also users know that here is the stage so they will gather to this theatre and they'll find out what's going on there.
We are a technology company. And we are proud of our history of innovation. And we will make many innovations to realise this infrastructure for ubiquitous society.

Narration:
It's a philosophy like this that makes NEC a leader for future society, building on core strengths built over the years.

YANO:
One of the most important points is that we are an IT and networking company. There is no other company who is pursuing both of these businesses in parallel. There are companies who have big computers but small communications vice versa etc. But we do have both. And we are very proud of that just because now is the time for convergence of technology. So it's the time for NEC.
