NEC concludes agreement with leading Czech Republic telecommunications carrier for iPASOLINK EX

*** For immediate use October 1, 2013

Tokyo, October 1, 2013 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) has concluded a framework agreement with T-Mobile Czech Republic (Headquarters: Prague; Managing Director: Mr. Milan Vašina) for iPASOLINK EX, NEC's outdoor, integrated, ultra-compact microwave communications system supporting 70-80GHz band communications (E-Band). Under this agreement, NEC will provide T-Mobile Czech Republic with iPASOLINK EX over the next three years.

Affiliated with Deutsche Telekom AG, a major European telecommunications operator, T-Mobile Czech Republic is a leading Czech Republic telecommunications carrier boasting 5.6 million subscribers that is taking measures aimed at accommodating the surge in data traffic stemming from the immense popularity of smartphones and tablets.

iPASOLINK EX is a compact, lightweight product that occupies a small footprint and is easy to install throughout a wide range of outdoor areas, thereby allowing fast construction of stable, high-speed network environments wherever needed. Furthermore, it supports a high modulation method (256QAM, *), which enables 1.6Gbps (with 250MHz bandwidth CS) of high-capacity transmissions through the radio.

Vladimir Klein, Technology Director, T-Mobile Czech Republic said, "In order to provide our customers with the best mobile internet, we constantly look for ways to manage increasing data traffic.  NEC's iPASOLINK EX fulfills our requirements for quality and the future capacity demands of our mobile backhaul network."

"We are honored that T-Mobile chose iPASOLINK EX for their mobile backhaul network said Nicolae Varvara, President, NEC Eastern Europe. "We consider this agreement a recognition of iPASOLINK EX's superior technology and will continue to support T-Mobile with our exceptional technologies."

Going forward, NEC will continue to provide network systems and services to global customers, by focusing on areas in which NEC is able to demonstrate the strength of its IT and network assets.

Notes

* ) 256QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation): Digital modulation method used to transmit multiple pieces of information at one time by changing the phase and amplitude. Shifting the phase of each electromagnetic wave by 90 degrees, as well as maintaining a value of 16 for not only each wave but also the amplitude of these waves, makes it possible for a value of 16 x 16 = 256 to be transmitted at one time.
