London & Tokyo, July 25, 2013 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) today announced the launch of an SaaS application marketplace for small to medium-sized businesses in Russia. The “Light Office” business app store is the result of a collaboration between NEC Neva Communications Systems (NEC Neva) and Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), the leading telecommunication operator in Russia and the CIS. The new service is available for MTS’s business subscribers in Moscow city and the Moscow region.
The Light Office business app store provides MTS customers with on-demand access to a range of cloud applications such as accounting, legal document management and video conferencing. The SaaS model allows users to manage IT expenditures effectively by cutting down on the cost of purchasing, implementing and maintaining business applications and services.
NEC Neva provided MTS with the NEC Cloud Service Broker, a robust, feature-rich and proven cloud management and aggregation platform to simplify the delivery of cloud services and managed services for their cloud platform.
“The launch of the Light Office business app store plays an integral part in the development and popularization of cloud services in Russia,” said Raymond Armes, Managing Director of NEC Neva. “We are delighted to support MTS in opening their new business opportunities for small to medium-sized businesses. With a range of SaaS applications, we can jointly provide the services at the same high standard as we do for the larger enterprises.”
“To be competitive in an ever-changing market, businesses are looking for simple and easy ways to implement innovative IT solutions with minimum time spending and financial costs,” said Sergey Irevli, Director, Department for Business Market Product Development and Management, MTS. “Cloud services provide such an opportunity and are in an ever-increasing demand, especially by small and medium-sized businesses. We have developed a comprehensive strategy for cloud services including SaaS and IaaS, which enables us to attract new clients and retain existing clients by bundling new cloud services with other telecom services.”
NEC has pioneered the provision of a cloud computing platform for telecom operators by contributing to more than 20 commercial cloud service projects in Europe, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region. Looking forward, NEC will continue to capitalize on its valuable know-how of integrated IT and network technologies in order to globally expand its cloud service business for telecom operators.
