Tokyo, April 16, 2013 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) is providing a new cloud-based Building Energy Management System (BEMS) that supports the IEEE1888 international standard and enables the integrated management of sensors and facility systems from a variety of vendors. Sales are scheduled to first begin in APAC, China and Japan, then expand to additional regions.
This system consists of gateway software that converts the individual transmission methods for substation systems, air conditioning, lighting, sensor equipment and others into the IEEE1888 standard, Facility Information Access Protocol (FIAP) server software that enables the visualization and control of equipment's energy use, and the servers necessary for operating these components.
In recent years, global energy demand is rapidly increasing, particularly in Asia and emerging markets, where there are rising populations and growing consumption. The energy-related equipment for buildings and facilities throughout these markets is produced by a variety of vendors and the building management systems for managing and controlling this equipment is also provided by a range of different vendors.
Current BEMS carry out supervisory control for each building and facility using different communications systems, making it difficult to understand the total amount of energy being used by an area as well as the most efficient way to operate.
"This new system addresses many formerly troubling issues by enabling the cloud-based integrated management of energy for numerous buildings that utilize different sensors and facility systems," said Keisuke Yanagiya, senior manager, Smart City Business Development Department, NEC. "This easy-to-use energy analysis contributes to greater operational efficiency, reduced energy needs and lower management costs."
Primary features of this new system include the following:
