Tokyo, February 28, 2013 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) concluded a contract to acquire Cyber Defense Institute, Inc. (CDI), one of the leading security system diagnosis companies in Japan and a wholly owned subsidiary of Itochu Corporation. NEC is scheduled to complete the 100% acquisition of interest in CDI on March 1, 2013.
CDI specializes in diagnosis and training services in the security area. The company's engineers provide expertise covering a wide range of fields in alignment with international companies. This acquisition enables NEC to provide comprehensive cyber security solutions throughout global markets, including consultation, system implementation and operations.
"In recent years, well-coordinated cyber-attacks against specific organizations or individuals are on the rise, and there is growing concern about the loss of personal and confidential data," said Hironori Takahashi, National Security Solutions Division, NEC Corporation. "NEC strategically established the 'Cyber Security Factory' last November, strengthening its support for the development and operation of solutions that protect against cyber-attacks on government offices and businesses. In addition, NEC signed a partnership agreement with INTERPOL to provide it with vital assistance in developing core elements of the Digital Crime Centre being established within the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation in Singapore."
Going forward, NEC will continue to enhance its cyber security business worldwide, including solutions for government offices and providers of critical infrastructure, such as electric power utilities, banking systems and communication networks.
