Tokyo, November 21, 2012 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced that Shinsegae I&C Co. Ltd. (Shinsegae; Korea SE: 035510), NICE Information Service Co. Ltd. (NICE; KOSDAQ: 030190) and NEC have begun providing cloud services in South Korea that analyze customer information.
Shinsegae is the system integration branch of the Shinsegae Group, a South Korea-based conglomerate that operates businesses across a wide range of industries, including the fashion, hotel and general construction fields. NICE, also based in South Korea, focuses on the provision of credit information services as the country's largest data bank.
This new service utilizes NEC's "Field Analyst" facial recognition technologies from the "PanelDirector" series to provide retail stores and other companies with detailed customer and market information. This data includes estimates of the age range and gender of visitors, as well as a combination of information and analysis on customer patterns, weather information and sales data from the surrounding area.
In addition to strengthening customer analysis, this service allows users to conveniently access, process and utilize specific sales information from anywhere with an internet connection. This can help retail stores operate and manage sales areas more efficiently through analysis of sales rates in coordination with POS and other purchasing information. Moreover, since the service is provided through cloud computing, users are free from having to construct separate, cost-intensive systems.
In the future, NEC aims to capitalize on the data collected and stored through this service in order to provide information provision services that utilize NEC's M2M data processing platform, "CONNEXIVE." NEC also plans to leverage these services in South Korea in order to introduce cloud-based customer information analysis services, featuring the CONNEXIVE platform and facial recognition technologies, throughout Asia and the rest of the world.
This service originates from the memorandum of understanding (MOU) concluded in March 2012 between NEC, Shinsegae and NICE to form a strategic alliance that promotes the development of cloud service models that analyze customer information.
