Tokyo, September 27, 2012 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) is globally providing "Software Factory," a cloud software development environment, in order to improve the quality and efficiency of software development throughout the world and to accelerate offshore development.
NEC introduces Software Factory to group companies in India in October 2012, as the first step of its global expansion of product and system development. The company also plans to introduce this system to China within its fiscal year ending in March 2013.
NEC is promoting the innovation of software production throughout the entire company, including the improvement of production quality, costs and delivery. The Software Factory is an integrated development environment on the cloud that plays a central role for engineering and project management, including the development process, methodologies and tools in activities that support the innovation of software production. NEC first introduced Software Factory three years ago and recently passed 10,000 users within the NEC group of companies.
"Software Factory enables us to decrease software development costs by 10 to 20% and to reduce production errors thanks to the NEC group's shared development environment and specifications," said Masato Yamamoto, Senior Vice President, NEC. "A development environment can be created in as little as two hours since users are free from the burdens of preparing hardware or installing software."
In addition to the standardization of the development process, methodologies and tools, NEC is sharing resources such, as source code and specification documents. In the future, the company also aims to provide automatic detection of security weaknesses and bugs as part of its ongoing efforts to improve productivity and quality. Moreover, project management is reinforced through the ability to view the development status of a project in real time.
NEC aims to accelerate software development for a wide range of businesses, including the IT and manufacturing fields, through provision of Software Factory within its 2013 fiscal year.
