Tokyo, August 27, 2012 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) signed a partnership agreement with OAS Arenas, an OAS Group company, one of the largest construction and utility companies in Brazil, for providing ICT infrastructure in the construction and management of Arena do Grêmio Foot Ball Porto Alegrense, the home stadium for one of Brazil's leading soccer teams.

NEC will provide customized ICT infrastructure for Arena do Grêmio, the first multipurpose arena of its kind in Latin America. Boasting an innovative design and the latest technology, this multi-use entertainment and leisure venue is built to meet FIFA standards, with a capacity of 60,000 spectators who are spread throughout four grandstand levels, including 135 luxury boxes. Furthermore, this is Brazil's first private arena to request International LEED Certification, granted by the Green Building Council (GBC), for projects that meet sustainability and natural resource preservation requirements.

NEC will provide Arena do Grêmio with a wide range of integrated systems that include the latest IP data and communications networks, security solutions featuring 246 security cameras, sound systems, fire detection systems and building automation systems that are   designed, deployed and monitored by ICT infrastructure from NEC. These ICT systems are scheduled to begin operating when the arena opens in December 2012.

Brazil's preparations for hosting the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games include the construction of new sports arenas, as well as the development and implementation of next-generation smart cities surrounding these areas after the close of events. Taking advantage of its Competence Center, NEC Latin America contributes to this development through a wide range of ICT solutions, including solutions specially designed for the Public Safety area.
